Beckstoffer Missouri Hopper

On the Oakville valley floor beneath the Mayacamas, Missouri Hopper was originally part of George C. Yount’s vast holdings. Charles Hopper purchased the land and in 1877 gave it to his daughter, Missouri, whose name it has carried ever since. It passed through the historic Vine Hill Ranch before Beckstoffer Vineyards acquired it in 1996, and since 2002 a conservation easement has protected the site for agriculture in perpetuity.

The bench soils here are deep and gravelly — Bale clay loam and sediment carried down from the Mayacamas — and they give a Cabernet of sweet, seasoned tannin and savory persistence, planted today to multiple clones of Cabernet Sauvignon.

Our Missouri Hopper Cabernet shows the site’s lively blue fruits and boysenberry, threaded with graphite and toasty oak — opulent, with a savory finish.
