Carter Cellars Weitz Vineyard Cabernet Sauvignon 2019
Tasting Notes
Perched high above the Silverado Trail on the eastern Oakville Bench and renown for its red volcanic soil and ample morning and afternoon sunlight, this is a vineyard we feel honored to make wine from. A translucent purple wine opens with signature scents of dark red and blue fruits, cassis and smoldering incense. A fruit forward wine with notably plush and silky tannins matched with natural acidity, give this wine both a juicy concentration and a multi-dimensional and textural quality. Considerable depth and fruit will continue to develop as the grape and barrel tannins integrate with bottle age and will bring forth tremendous purity and allure. Decanting a few hours will benefit this wine for early drinking; cellar for 4-8 years to enjoy this wine as it hits its stride.
"Coming from the northern part of the valley, the 2019 Cabernet Sauvignon Weitz Vineyard has a wonderful floral character as well as classic Napa Valley cassis and blue fruits along with notes of lead pencil, violets, and chocolate. Polished, full-bodied, and beautifully balanced, it should rank with the 2015 and 2016 vintages."
98-96 Points ~ Jeb Dunnuck (barrel sample)
Map of the Weitz Vineyard
The History of the Weitz Vineyard
Long considered one of the gems in Turnbull’s Vineyard portfolio, the Weitz Vineyard sits on 62 glorious acres high on the Oakville Bench above some of the most famous vineyards in the world. Characterized by fractured volcanic rocks and degraded boulders, the scarcity of soil forces the vines to struggle and naturally controls fruit production. The fruit itself is renowned for its profound structure, elegant rich texture and lingering acidity and minerality. We are proud to join such notable wineries like the Maybach Family to source fruit out of this remarkable vineyard.
