2017 Beckstoffer To Kalon ‘The O.G.’ Cabernet Sauvignon
From our original block of Beckstoffer To Kalon grapes planted to clone 337, and one of our most popular wines, this dense and ethereal Napa Cabernet Sauvignon strikes the perfect balance between opulence and elegance. In 2017 there is a rush of black cherry, cassis, dark coffee and earthly undertones matched with an inky deep dark purple color. Sweet rounded tannins and balanced acidity integrate perfectly, resulting in a concentrated intense palate and makes this a decadent complex wine with layers of texture and remarkable purity. As with the prior vintages, the structure and power of the clone 337 from the Beckstoffer To Kalon Vineyard lends itself well to an extended decant or several years of bottle age. This wine should hit its prime in five years, yet remain cellarable for well over a decade or two.

2017 Beckstoffer To Kalon ‘The Grand Daddy’ Cabernet Sauvignon
From the very front of the Beckstoffer To Kalon Vineyard, this block produced exceptional wines in 2017 as a result of great farming and cluster thinning matched with talented winemaking. For the final year, these older clone 4 vines offer our most upfront, and instantly appealing wine from this vineyard. Dark blackberry fruits, spice , and rich cool soil intertwine to create a lavish multi-layered wine, that then leads to an enormous mid-palate buttressed perfectly by the wine’s natural acidity and gripping tannins. Offering a unique amount of ripeness and texture, this is an elegant wine wrapped up in a cloak of raw but refined power. While drinking great now, allow this wine to age and watch it reach its full potential.

2017 Beckstoffer To Kalon ‘The Three Kings’ Cabernet Sauvignon
This wine will be very limited in 2017 as about half of its usual fruit production was left out during the fires and had to be declassified due to smoke taint. Thankfully for Carter Carters, this was the only smoke tainted fruit that we had. As in years past this wine is a successful expression of both the richness and power of clone 7 – a stalwart in Napa Valley for decades. With its opulent and fruit forward profile, the wine attacks the senses with blue and black fruit mixed with exotic and savory spices. This wines mid-palate shines, loaded with rounded firm tannins and waves of decadent fruit. Like all Carter Cellars wines, this wine is approachable immediately, but give this beautiful wine a few years in the cellar to round out and you’ll be rewarded by additional nuances for years to come.

2017 Beckstoffer Las Piedras ‘La Verdad’ Cabernet Sauvignon
One of our most highly sought after wines, the 2017 ‘La Verdad’ is ultra low production wine from our original block of stressed vines on the Beckstoffer Las Piedras Vineyard. Inky and dark in the glass, the nose emits a show stopping rush of youthful blueberry and black fruits. The first taste is a pleasurable attack on the senses, bursting with concentrated dark black and blue fruits, mixed with crushed stones. Year after year, the underlying structure and minerality result in a muscular but well-balanced Cabernet. A full-bodied mid-palate reveals finely integrated tannins that lift the overall back bone of the wine and ends with an opulent and seamless fruit driven finish.

2017 Beckstoffer Las Piedras ‘La BAM’ Cabernet Sauvignon
At the foot of Spring Mountain along the banks of Sulphur Springs lies the Beckstoffer Las Piedras Vineyard – a 22 acre site renowned for its naturally low yields and well draining soil. These slightly less stressed vines are closer to the riverbed and sit on slightly more rocky and well draining soil than the ‘La Verdad’. Like a smack in the face, ‘La BAM’, boasts a full rich bold palate of red and black fruits matched with graphite, wet gravel, chocolate and savory spices. Matched with sweet firms from Darnajou barrels, this wine ends with a lengthy prodigious finish that has to be tasted to be believed.

2017 Weitz Vineyard Cabernet Sauvignon
From high up on the eastern Oakville Bench and renown for its red volcanic soil, this translucent purple wine opens with signature scents of red and black berry fruits, cassis and crushed petals. Notably plush tannins and natural acidity give this wine both concentration and a multi-dimensional quality. Considerable depth and fruit will continue to develop as the structure starts to integrate with bottle age and bring tremendous purity and allure. Decanting a few hours will benefit this wine for early drinking; cellar for 5-10 years to enjoy this wine in its prime.
