Carter Cellars Carter Proprietary

Tasting Notes

The inaugural vintage for the Carter Proprietary red wine is a massive effort. The grapes, Cabernet Sauvignon from the best vines selected by our winemaking team from our pristine Vineyard sources, were co-fermented with some whole clusters- the final amount of wine making barely a single barrel. The nose is explosive with a rush of cassis, mocha and violets. The dark fruits follow through on the palate with a light note of cigar tobacco and framed by firm tannins from the intensely flavored grapes and light touch of new French Oak.

"The 2004 Carter is a killer effort. It boasts an inky/purple color and virtually everything you would want in a great Cabernet Sauvignon – creme de cassis, blackberries, graphite, spring flowers, well-integrated wood, acidity and tannin, a full-bodied mouthfeel and a finish that goes on and on. This spectacular wine remains incredibly youthful. If I had tasted it blind, I would have mistaken it for a two- or three-year-old Napa Cabernet Sauvignon. It should continue to age effortlessly for 20-25 years. ."
